Saint of Kalaupapa is Father Damien. The canonization of Father Damien will be held in St. Peters in Rome, Italy on October 11, 2009.
He was so giving of himself to the patients who were exiled to Kalaupapa, Molokai in the 1860's. He wrote in a letter "I am gently going to my grave. It is the will of God and I thank Him very much for letting me die of the same disease and in the same way as my lepers. I am very satisfied and very happy." He is an amazing human being. Please, join me in reading more about his life. Better yet; plan a trip to Kalaupapa and experience the love of Father Damien, his patients, and the people of Molokai. The mule ride down to Kalaupapa is incredible. I plan on taking another trip soon.
